Me and McMike once thought NPOCP should change names on cars less than $3000. Either as a separate post or just change the title. Either way, I present to you a winter beater/ Gas saver. Or so the owner thinks.
$1450 cash or $750 + a gokart. Your move.

Test drove one when new - fun little car, although I bought a CRX Si. Tap it - I’d offer a grand.

I drove one for about 5 years, fun, pretty bulletproof, looks like a deal to me. Somebody needs to take this concept, small light, basic, 2 door sedan with a little extra oomph and some sporting pretentions ( a la BMW 2002) and make it RWD, and make one NOW.
All the married guys who want a Miata or BRZ, but can’t justify it on practicality grounds are in. It’s cheap, practical, dependable, good mpg, room for kids in the back ....... and.......I can hoon the heck out of it on the weekend.

You mean this thing they won’t build?
It’s because they can’t sell 80,000 units a year to Alamo and Enterprise.

how is what you described different than a brz. yes this sentra and the e30 had usable backseats but that’s more due to modern crash tests making interiors smaller which you cant work around

If I had the space, this would become my winter beater/ice racing car.

Honest to Jebus, I want to buy an Impreza, put the engine in the back seat and use one of those roid-rage snowmobile drive belts to send the power from the tail shaft back to the front of the car.

I’d drive anything if it was cheap enough.

Just the front though. No need to have power in the back.

Yes kind of like that, I think the logical candidate is Mazda on a slightly enlarged Miata platform.

The rear seat is the difference, which I think I kind of tried to explain already, that and being a little more upright. I have gotten in and out of low cars most of my life, including a few Austin Healeys, MGS, Triumphs, an RX7 and a current Porsche 924. But there comes a time in one’s life where getting in and out of something a little taller is both easier and more dignified, especially for a daily driver.

then you should abandon the rwd requirement and embrace the hot hatch
